What Is Spyware

Posted on May 31st, 2008 in Internet Information by Global Marketing - Internet Marketing

What Is Spyware?

Adware is software that displays advertisements. This does not mean that any software that provides advertisements or tracks your on-line activities is adware. Adware has been criticized for occasionally including code that tracks a user’s personal information and passes it on to third parties, without the user’s authorization or knowledge. This practice has been dubbed spyware and has prompted an outcry from computer security and privacy advocates. Adware is software that displays advertising banners, re-directs you to websites, and otherwise conducts advertising on your computer (not to be confused with popup ads, which come from the websites that you visit). Malware is malicious software that is intended to do harm to your computer or software.

Spyware is a way for shareware authors to make money from a product, rather than by selling it to users. While this may be a great concept in theory, the downside is that the advertising companies also install additional tracking software on your system, which is continuously “calling home”, using your Internet connection and reports statistical data to someone else. Spyware is any technology or software residing on your PC that covertly gathers information. In most cases, spyware is installed without the user’s awareness or informed consent. Spyware is usually included as a hidden component in mislabeled “freeware” and shareware programs downloaded from the Internet. Because the spyware companies are aware that users will recognize the malicious nature of the spyware program, they must employ stealthy techniques to conceal the presence of the spyware from the consumer.

Spyware is a bit different from viruses and Trojans in that it does not spread from computer to computer or from file to file. Rather, it is often installed by the user in conjunction with freeware/shareware. It is a particular concern because of its potential use in identity theft and fraud. It is just like weeds in your garden or flower bed. They just appear when you least expect it.

Spyware is a technology problem that requires a technology solution. On the surface, the task of combating spyware seems to be heading in the same direction viruses and SPAM have taken us. It is a technological problem and users need a strong defense to combat it. It is a byproduct of peer-to-peer file-sharing. People are generally unaware of how easily spyware gets into their computers.

Software companies issue free “patches” to plug those holes as they’re discovered. If there is an auto-update feature for your operating system and browser, make sure you have activated that feature to automatically check for and install those updates. Software is considered malware based on the perceived intent of the creator rather than any particular features. Malware includes computer viruses, worms, trojan horses, most rootkits, spyware, dishonest adware, and other malicious and unwanted software. Software intercepting e-mails and instant messages can collect and transmit confidential information to Internet, and are also dangerous and valid security concerns. Some software may also change parameters of installed security software without your consent.

Spyware is any kind of program installed in your computer without your consent to gather information about you or your organization. A typical piece of spyware will watch over your shoulder while you browse the Web, record your mouse clicks and broadcast all that information back to another computer (ostensibly for marketing purposes).

Satellite Communications Not What They Used To Be

Satellite Communications: Not What They Used To Be

I had never given much thought to the likes of satellite internet until recently. For most of my professional life I have been tied to a desk as many of us are, that is until I was promoted to the executive level within my company. Though I knew there would be some travel involved with the position when I interviewed for it, it was revealed to me that I would be on the road eighty percent of the time.

I would be on trains and airplanes the majority of the time preparing for presentations and so I it was advised that I set up some type of commercial satellite so that my time traveling would be productive and well spent. I had two weeks to prepare for my first trip so I spent a number of hours both at home and in the office researching satellite communications.

When I first began my search for a decent satellite internet provider I recalled all of the horror stories I had been told by subscribers of such technology. From complaints of slow connections, to horrible lag and ping rates, these reverberated in my mind as I looked over several of the newer providers. I was surprised at what I found however. Many of the organizations I had looked into provided sections within their websites that showcased just how much the technology had matured and improved over time. Thankfully, this laid many of my fears I had to rest.

No longer was connectivity an issue and gone where the disquieting ping rates. It was connection speeds however that had shown the most growth. Though speeds varied from provider to provider, the majority of transfer rates I saw had been nearly as fast as a home based cable connections and in a few cases just as fast and reliable. Of course websites more often than not throw a pair of rose tinted glasses on their readers so I knew the only way to be sure was to try a couple of providers out at a time. With the go ahead from my superiors at work I proceeded to test the three providers that piqued my interest.

I ran my laptop from my car, home, office, and even a coffee shop. I put my connections to the test by performing such tasks as surfing the net casually, downloading movies and music, and uploading a website or two through an FTP. After almost a week and half of putting these providers through the mill I settled on one. The one provider I settled on outclassed the other two in terms of upload capabilities. In all other areas the three providers where nearly equal but upload speeds where the deciding factor simply because I was going to be doing a lot of communicating with the office servers.

Having been on the road making use of my satellite internet connection, I can tell you that things have gone smoothly. Every single worry and myth about satellite communications I held in the back of my mind has been negated by an outstanding and dependable service provider. If mobile technology continues on the path it’s currently on I have no doubts that eventually all internet connections will be wireless.

Make and learn to use real time applications

Make and learn to use real time applications

The real time applications have several benefits over the multitasking or time sharing systems. What is it that you must have new with the real time applications? The traffic control systems and real time operating systems are common now. You must have heard names of “real time applications”, ”real time protocols”, “real time systems”, “ real time traffic systems”, “ real time clocks” and “real time java games”.

The virtual and multi sharing technology has created and transformed the old single tasking environment. The new real time environment and real time applications catch interest of different users. The java game lovers have also made some new interests in the new real time technology these days.

Some AI and robotic systems also work on real time ways. Check out some java based real time systems and expert data base systems. Though real time operating systems benefit the user, some hard ware and software specifications are required for special real time Solaris platforms. Real time systems require both operational and non-operational requirements. Some real time language support is also needed for a real time system. A real time language has certain features like:

Complexity
Manageability
Scheduling
Reusability
Trouble shooting
Program distribution facilities

The real time systems and functions use a real time language processor too. Some real time data base systems are also found by different web surfers. Check out the sun and java new real time system. As the name suggests, the real time systems are monitored and managed systems, not only in terms of time, but also in terms of logic too. The real time systems can also be used for fault tolerance and user compatibility.

Ada and java are powerful real time languages that offer enhanced programming features. Using a real time technology offers some benefits that the time sharing systems don’t have. Some companies and websites offer comparative advantage tools by using real time systems. The off-shore and supply chain businesses have benefited a lot from real time technology. The robotics and AI has something in common. The real time systems can be used for making quick response to customers and better production facilities to the work force.

Firms are gaining both comparative and competitive advantages by adopting the real time machinery. (Who wouldn’t like to visit and join your factory, if you have better and automated real time systems?) The difficult human work and easy supervision by real time systems have increased their popularity. These days, the real time technology is being used in embedded systems. (In the past, it meant only “time managed and logic based”, but the term “real time” has different meanings today). The real time systems are generally needed to operate heavy machinery and bulky industrial plants. However, if there’s even a one line code error, the whole real time system may crash badly.

Skill Sets of Software Testing Professional

Software testing is not an easy task, a software tester should requires at least complete knowledge of software testing tools, logical and analytical ability along with quality approach to the software testing processes.

A talented tester requires few more skill sets to become successful software testing professional. Unfortunately, we don’t see quality software tester in many software development and testing organizations. Majority of the people in the software community consider software testing a mediocre job suitable for people who have lesser analytical and problem-solving skills. The essential skills a software tester should have are not properly assessed when recruiting for a software testing assignment. Below is the list of essential skill sets required in a software tester:

Logical and Analytical Thinking
Any problem and task can be very well completed if the approach is right to solve the problem. For a right and directional approach one should have good logical sense to analyze the problem. The high-end thought process is the key quality in a software tester.
The role of a software tester is to find the logical as well as functional errors in a software application. To find logical errors a software tester should be able to do complete visualization and mapping of the all possible scenarios.
Thus to develop a strategy and to test the software application requires strong and fundamental logical and analytical approach towards software testing.

Time management and Planning
On time delivery of the project is the dream and of course duty as well as commitment of every software organization. Development of the application, testing of the application, bug-fixing of the application and release of the application versions are all the steps which are independent on each step. Any delay in above processes will extend the schedule and in turn will become more money and time consuming process. Every client wants the timely delivery of the application.
Software testing plays major role in the software development life cycle, so proper planning of the software testing plans and timely execution of the plan is the commendable quality of a software tester. A Software tester should define all the testing criteria, approach, assumptions and schedule in time bound schedule and with proper planning.
