Each state in the U.S.A. compels licensed drivers to carry at least minimum auto insurance. California is no different. California’s auto insurance laws are much like the laws in other states. That said, the minimum allowable amount of auto insurance in California is called “liability insurance”.
California liability auto insurance is required to meet certain legal minimal limits: first, it must underwrite bodily injury of one person in a single accident up to $15,000; next, it must cover bodily injury of each person involved in a single accident up to $30,000; and, finally, liability insurance must cover property damage up to $5,000 in a single accident. Again, it is critical to mention that these are the absolute coverage minimums – minimums required by law.

California is another one of those states requiring you to carry proof of auto insurance. Failing to do so will undoubtedly cause considerable challenges. Without proof of proper California car insurance you can neither register a new vehicle nor renew an existing one. Additionally, should you be caught without necessary proof of insurance, either by the Department of Motor Vehicles or a law officer, then your registration can be suspended until you provide such proof. Losing your privilege to drive until this is resolved can quickly become a hardship.

The truth is, many insurance providers presently offer affordably priced minimum coverage. Do a little research and you’ll find you can be insured for a fair premium.
