What is a Building Society

Posted on September 14th, 2008 in Internet Marketing by Global Marketing - Internet Marketing

What is a Building Society?

A building society is a financial institution much like a bank, except that it is owned by its members and not by shareholders. Apart from that there are very little obvious differences between them, especially these days.

Originally, building societies were set up to enable each of their members to purchase their own home. All the members basically pooled their savings and when the last member had a house the building society would be dissolved. This changed in the early 19th Century when building societies started offering new members the opportunity to save and buy a house on a continuous basis, and as a result building societies effectually became permanent institutions.

Over the years building societies have been offering more or less the same financial services as banks to such an extent that there is now very little difference between the two.

So which is best, building society or bank?

This isn’t an easy question to answer for obvious reasons. Each building society and bank has to be assessed on its own merits for the products they are offering. For example, some financial institutions may offer you a better short term deal on one product in order to attract you as a customer, but the long term scenario can be very different. At the same time it doesn’t follow that because they offer one good product that their other products are necessarily a good deal too.

Also, as banks are trying to please their shareholders they are often under pressure to hike up their prices for better profits, whereas building societies are not structured in the same way and can offer a lower price long term, particularly as they do not have to dish out dividends to shareholders.

However, banks will often appear as a “best buy” simply because of the attractive deals they can offer new customers. On saying that, building societies and banks are so similar nowadays that many people are not even aware of whether a particular institution is in fact one or the other. This of course hasn’t been helped by the fact that in the last few decades many building societies have become de-mutualised and have actually converted into banks.

A recent survey by fool.co.uk revealed that most people would really prefer talking about their financial circumstances with a building society rather than a bank and would also prefer to have a mortgage from a building society, indicating that there is a higher degree of trust with building societies. However, best buy tables seem to indicate that banks actually offer a better deal in three specific areas and these are credit cards, savings accounts and mortgages. Naturally, the building societies would disagree and with good reason too.

The recent difficulties with banks like Northern Rock have resulted in many people losing faith in banks so they are turning to building societies instead. Trust is a key area for both building societies and banks because once they have your custom and your trust; you are more likely to turn to them first for any other financial services you might need.

As with everything else these days, and especially in these difficult economic times, it pays to shop around for a particular product as these will vary quite significantly from building society to building society, just as they do from bank to bank.

Next time you need to contact a bank, you could get a good deal from a building society instead.

The Viral Side of Internet Marketing

Posted on August 19th, 2008 in Internet Marketing by Global Marketing - Internet Marketing

The Viral Side of Internet Marketing

It seems as if viral marketing is one of the most successful strategies that one can employ with Internet marketing. Viral marketing is an Internet marketing practice that employs referrals, recommendations, and reviews in order to quickly spread word about a product or service. Gmail, Utube, and various viral videos on the Internet have all been transmitted by the viral marketing technique. These online entrepreneurs have enjoyed immense success by employing the viral marketing technique. Think about it as an exponential effort once launched its benefits and effects only get stronger.

The Zagat of Internet Marketing

Viral marketing has been able to successfully allow marketers to increase the value of free services online, because referrals are the major way that most people market with free services. So, these tools of Internet marketing have been able to allow people to significantly pursue various affiliate programs in order to increase the value of these free services. When free services are everywhere to be found, they lose value. Therefore, viral marketing solves this problem by making people refer one another to a various product or service. When people receive referrals, they believe that a service is more valuable. This is simply a part of human nature. Therefore, viral marketing is a great Internet marketing tool that marketers can use to increase their web exposure.

In this way, many new companies have been able to compete with old-timer companies simply by employing the viral marketing strategy. In this way, people recommend one another to another service, such as gmail, and then their friends sign up for gmail. This is a great way to market your product. You can boost your Internet marketing campaign by employing viral marketing.

We Already Know That Referrals Work

If you look at the statistics, you will see that referral marketing is a highly valuable form of Internet marketing. In fact, it is so valuable that we will see referral marketing dominate the Internet marketing world in the future as well.

This is a great way to get the word out about your product, and it’s more organic and useful. People like it more, it’s less in your face, it’s more encouraging and delightful to use.

No one clicks on banner ads anymore; people have gotten smarter than that. It’s almost useless to use banner ads nowadays. It’s a waste of money and time. No one likes it when someone is shoving a product in their face. Always when marketing put yourself in the reader’s shoes the best marketing is that type of effort where you lend a hand or give advice. However, if a friend recommends a product to them, they are more likely to buy it. This is why viral marketing works so well.

Email is another great way to market your product, but unfortunately, The Spam Crisis created a lot of firewalls that prevent marketers from reaching their customers through email. So, if you’re going to employ email as an Internet marketing tool, use opt-in lists or safe lists.

Can You Really Make Money With MLM Network Marketing Truth Revealed

Can You Really Make Money With MLM/Network Marketing? Truth Revealed.

Multi-level marketing (MLM), also known as Network Marketing is
a business distribution model where relationship referral and
direct selling are the means by which a parent multi-level
marketing company offer their products directly to consumers.

The idea is quite simple really; imagine you have a product to
sell. You could do what most businesses do: either sell it
directly to other consumers or find others who will buy your
product from you and sell it to other people. MLM schemes
require that you recruit people who will not only buy and sell
your product, but will also recruit people. This process is then
repeated. Can schemes like this that use MLM network marketing
really make anyone any money?

Sadly, I reveal the truth that, since MLM can no longer claim to
be new, the system has been tried and, for the most part, has
failed. Unfortunately, MLM is just not an effective way for the
average person to get rich.

If you are an MLM Distributor, then you are part of a group that
has an estimated 20,000,000 worldwide members. 20,000,000 people
chasing an impossible dream. Out of the 20,000,000 MLM
distributors around the world, there are LESS than 1,000 of them
generating exceptional amounts of money (in excess of $100,000)
each month.

Also, it is often difficult to determine legal and reputable
MLMs from illegal pyramid schemes, that sometimes try to present
themselves as legitimate MLM businesses. In April 2006, the
Federal Trade Commission (FTC) proposed a Business Opportunity
Rule intended to require all sellers of business opportunities,
including MLMs, to provide enough information to enable
prospective buyers to make an informed decision about their
probability of earning money.

It is imperative to make an informed decision when evaluating
any cash-generating program, so always consider whether or not
ALL of the information is presented to you BEFORE you get
started. Why not contemplate a system like cash gifting, where
there are no companies involved and you can receive first hand
phone support and coaching from your own personal mentor. Sound
like what you’re looking for? …this is only the beginning.
Whatever you choose, I hope and pray you find what you’re
looking for. You could discover the real key to success with a
well-structured,legitimate cash gifting system and forget the
failure of being sucked into hyped up MLM network marketing.

eCommerce SEO Tips

eCommerce SEO Tips

According to Nielsen net ratings, every month, about half of all search engine queries are unique. This statistic, although vague and seemingly insignificant, is actually the greatest factor behind why eCommerce Soltuions fare so well in search. We interpret the statistic like this: Half of all searches cannot be predicted, the other half can be.

Great. So what does that have to do with eCommerce? The reason why eCommerce and SEO are better for each other than Forrest was for Jenny is due to the massive amount of content contained within the average eCommerce solution and that content’s ability to target both predictable and unpredictable (long-tail) search phrases.

eCommerce solutions have a major advantage over any other database driven site for a number of reasons.

    * Abundant Content: Unlike a blog, article directory or content managed site, thousands of search engine friendly pages can be literally uploaded and indexed by the search engines.

    * Easy Unique Content: A product or category page needs a few tech specs and a brief description. As long as that content is unique to the site, a webmaster can litter the search engines with products and categories. The time it would take for a blog or content managed site to reach that same level using unique content is staggering.

    * Targeting the Predictable & Unpredictable: Category pages can be targeted for predictable searches like “red widgets.” Product pages can capture the unpredictable ones like “red widgets with tassels”(provided they contain keyword-rich descriptions).

So how can you make the most of your eCommerce solution in the search engines? As promised here is a list of 25 general tips.

Most Importantly:

    * Pick the right solution: Get an eCommerce provider that allows you to do everything we mention in this list. And hey, what do you know? Bridgeline’s eCommerce Solution lets you do all of this… Crazy how that works out, no?

Onsite Optimization Tips

    * Unique title tags: The content contained within should not be repeated verbatim within the site.

    * Put your site name after the product or category name in the title tag: Use your site to Brand, use your search engine listing to get clicks.

    * Unique meta data: Take the time to make your meta data (description & keywords) unique for each page. Obviously, that can be tricky if you have 10,000 skus, so try and get your developer to populate that area with the product description.

    * Use H1 tags: And put your keywords in them. Go to your source. Search for ‘

    * Use more than manufacturer data: If your product pages only contain the specs and descriptions that your manufacturer provides, the search engines will lump that product page together with the hundreds of other ones out there with the same specs and descriptions, meaning it won’t find its way into the search engine result pages (SERPS).

    * Take the time to add unique copy to your product and category pages

    * Link to other products and categories from that copy

    * Use alt tags: I know. I heard too. They’re useless. Use them anyway. SEO is about a conglomeration of variables, not a single supreme one.

    * Have a clear category tree: Search engines like that.

    * Use a search engine friendly navigation: Text links are best. Don’t like text and want to use images? Make sure you use alt tags. Using flash or doing postbacks? Stop that!

    * Create an XML based sitemap and put it in Google webmaster tools

Offsite Optimization (Link Building) Tips
Link building is incredibly difficult for eCommerce sites because no one wants to link to your drop shipping site when they can link to the real thing or Target.com. Here is what you need to know:

    * Build domain authority: Domain authority is basically a measure of the number of high quality sites linking to yours. The more the better. So how do you get those?

    * Buy them: The quickest, easiest way to get Domain authority is to buy it at Text-Link-Ads.com. Unfortunately, it ain’t cheap.

    * Take your nique products and promote them in the online community: Get out into the online community, target some top bloggers in or around your industry and try to get them talking about your unique product. Again, this doesn’t really work for drop shippers because no one is going to link to your site when there are more reputable ones out there to link to so…

    * Put Something On Your site worth linking to: Compile a great list of resources, make how-to videos, develop a calculator, or other custom tool. If your products aren’t unique and link-friendly, you’ll need some site content that is.

    * Submit to directories: If you go to the forums they’ll tell you to submit to hundreds or thousands of directories. Don’t. Those are not high quality links, they don’t transmit domain authority, and they’ll only waste your time… What you need to do is find lists that bloggers or independent webmasters have made. If you must, submit to the directories, but be certain they are specific to your industry.

    * Submit articles: Again, the forums will tell you to submit as many articles as humanly possible. What I’m telling you is this:

o Write 3-5 quality articles on topics that people are talking about in your industry (like what I’m doing here).

o Submit the articles to a bunch of article directories.

o Link to those articles from your homepage.

o Link to your homepage from those articles

o Link Sculpt: Place a nofollow tag on any link that doesn’t point back to your homepage.

o Go to relevant blogs and forums where topics pertaining to those articles are being discussed, and drop links back to them.

    * Link exchanges: Despite popular opinion, still work… just don’t go overboard.

    * Deep link: Meaning, repeat 1-6 for your major categories.

    * Buy blog reviews: Go to sponsoredreviews.com or payperpost.com and buy some reviews from RELEVANT bloggers and point them back at your category or product pages. You’ll see a boost. It won’t last forever, but it will leave you in better standing than you were in to begin.

    * Answer questions on forums: And link back to your site in the signature

    * Outsource to India: There are plenty of Indians looking to make a buck on forums like Digital Point. They’ll generally do everything that I just mentioned from 1-10 and they’ll do it for cheap.
